The Berlin international conference "Lessons of World War 2 and
Holocaust" has called for an objective assessment of attempts at
falsifying the history of World War 2 praising fascists and fascism,
pursuing the unity of the anti-fasciscy forces, on the eve of the 65th
anniversary of the Great Patriotic War.
The conference is organized by the world congress of Russian speaking
Jews and supported by Jewish organizations in Europe. President of the
world congress Boris Spiegel says that it is a sin to remain
indifferent to attempts at rehabilitating fascism in a number of
countries.
Those trying to whitewash fascists and their accomplices, are people
who deny what took place and who want to rewrite history, said Mr.
Spiegel. Our conference is devoted to this, he said. Delegates from 22
countries in the world have gathered in Berlin to coordinate efforts in
the fight against attempts at distorting history and eulogizing
fascism, declared Mr. Spiegel.
Holding of the conference in Berlin is highly symbolic, said Andrei
Zarenkov, secretary of the anti-fascist committee in Estonia.
The conference was moved on the opening day to the outskirts of Berlin,
site of the so-called station of death, from where 50 thousand Berlin
Jews were transported to Warsaw, Lodz, Riga and to the East where they
were eventually liquidated. We remember the tragedy; we took part in a
meeting in the region of Tirgarten where soldiers and officers of the
Soviet army, liberators of Berlin are buried in the memorial of fame.
Here, you understand the full tragedy of what happened, you understand
the whole atrocity of fascism, the falsfying history, said Zarenkov.
Neo-fascism in Europe has become an instrument for uniting radicals,
and the resurrection of the scourge is not only a technology, but also
a dangerous ideology that must be fought to a standstill, said Andrei.
The reincarnation of fasciscy ideology has taken root in the Baltic
states, and the Berlin conference is meant to prepare at the
international level, our activists for the arduous battle against
fascism now rearing its ugly head, said Zarenkov.
Among the aims of the "Lessons of World War 2 and the Holocaust"
conference in Berlin is raising to a higher level the anti-fasciscy
movement and the objective will be spelled out officially in the final
communiqué of the conference and is to form the basis of the movement's
activity ahead of marking of 65th anniversary of World War 2.
