The State's heads are handing out praise to the IDF following the seizure of an arms ship off the coast of Israel Wednesday. Human rights advocacy organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) said Wednesday it sent a letter to Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, in which they called him to immediately implement the Goldstone Report recommendations. HRW called on Haniyeh to open a credible investigation into the violations committed by members of his organization during Operation Cast Lead. The Goldstone committee, appointed by the United Nations to examine the conduct of Israel and Hamas during the Gaza operation, called both sides to investigate their own violations of laws of war within six months. The report, which was adopted by the UN Human Rights Council over the weekend, concluded that among other issues, the firing of rockets on Israeli civilian population must be investigated as a possible war crime. Robert Bernstein, the founder of Human Rights Watch, one of the world’s
leading human rights organisations, accused the New York-based group of
anti-Israeli bias yesterday. Mr Bernstein turned on the organisation he created in 1978 in a New York Times
opinion piece questioning the group’s work in the Middle East.
“As the founder of Human Rights Watch, its active chairman for 20 years and
now founding chairman emeritus, I must do something that I never
anticipated: I must publicly join the group’s critics,” he wrote.
“Human Rights Watch had as its original mission to pry open closed societies,
advocate basic freedoms and support dissenters. But recently it has been
issuing reports on the Israeli-Arab conflict that are helping ... Read more »
Israel began fighting the diplomatic battle Tuesday to prevent the Goldstone Commission report on Israel's Cast Lead Operation in the Gaza Strip from being brought before the United Nations Security Council and from there to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, where charges could be brought against Israeli officials involved in the military campaign. The report, compiled by a commission headed by former war crimes prosecutor Richard Goldstone, accuses both Israel and the Palestinians of actions amounting to war crimes during the December 27 to January 18 battle in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Tuesday night a team lead by Foreign Ministry legal advisor Ehud Keinan, and which included representatives from the Justice Ministry and the military prosecutor's office, delivered a preliminary analysis of ... In an interview full of contradictions, Turkish television producer Selcuk Cobanoglu, whose anti-Israeli TV drama "Ayrilik" prompted Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman to summon the Turkish envoy for a meeting, told Israel Radio on Thursday that the soldiers depicted in the drama "are not Israeli soldiers" and stressed that all of the program's staff love the Israeli people. "The show is not about IDF soldiers, we also wrote this in a warning that appeared on the screen at the beginning of the program," the Turkish producer said. In the first episode of a series on a Palestinian family living in the West Bank, which aired Tuesday evening during prime time on the government-controlled station TRT1, IDF soldiers are seen killing a baby and a young girl, and lining up Palestinians to be shot by firing squad. In T... Read more »
An
inflammatory anti-Israeli television show in Turkey on Tuesday did what
Ankara's cancellation of Israeli participation in an international
military exercise last week failed to do - lead the Foreign Ministry to
call in Turkey's envoy to register a protest.
Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman issued a statement Wednesday
night announcing that the Turkish envoy would be summoned to protest
the "inciting" television program that appeared Tuesday evening on
prime time on the government-controlled station TRT1.
"The
right for a Jewish state and the right to self defense are two of the
basic principles of our people. These two elements are interwoven:
Without a state of our own we cannot defend ourselves and without the
right to self defense, we cannot run our own country," Prime Minister
Binyamin Netanyahu said at the opening of the Knesset's winter session
on Monday.
The prime minister was referring to the recently published
Goldstone Commission report on Israel's Operation Cast Lead in Gaza
last winter.
"These basic rights are under continuous assault, gaining
momentum since the Second Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead. We must
repel this onslaught," Netanyahu said.

The name of our site is omonymous to Russian phase "no to antisemites". We have started as a portal for Russian speaking public with one goal in mind - to bring together people, who consider themselves antisemites, and their object of hatred, to allow them and us expressing themselves and posing their accusations and prejudices. We (and other hated) will try to answer the charges and to expel the prejudice. As we firmly believe, xenophobia is a fruit of ignorance, which bears hatred and fear in its turn. We come to dissipate the ignorance, to serve as a question board whereat no question will be considered stupid, as we believe that there are no stupid questions but answers lean sometimes to this tendency. We welcome you here at the portal of peace and friendship. We aim to reforge the swords into ploughshares. Are you with us? Welcome, friends.
